Welcome to The Piano School!


The Piano School is the private piano studio of Sarah Reaser O'Brien, NCTM. As a nationally certified teacher of music, Mrs. O'Brien aims to help her students capitalize on their natural musical affinities while developing musical skills and understanding that will last a lifetime. Weekly lessons take place in Mrs. O'Brien's home studio and are 30 minutes in length. The studio remains full much of the time, so prospective students are encouraged to do two things:

  2. Continue to seek instruction elsewhere, as the waiting list moves slowly.

Backyard Bash Series

Backyard Bash, Volumes 1 and 2, are collections of elementary-level pieces which were written about the many creatures who have visited Mrs. O'Brien's backyard. All of the pieces in the collection have lyrics which were written to both complement the music as well as tell tell the true stories that inspired the series. The original Backyard Bash is somewhat easier than Backyard Bash, Volume 2, and both are published by Piano Pronto Publishing. Available as both physical copy and digital download. Smart Tones


Smart Tones is a collection of tech-themed piano solos for early intermediates. Late beginners will also fine one or two of the pieces to be accessible. With titles such as: Texting, Incoming Call, Scrolling, and Power Down, this collection provides a wide range rhythmic and stylistic variety to satisfy even the most scrutinizing student! Published by Piano Pronto Publishing. Available as both physical copy and digital download. Studio licensing offered.

Star City Solos

Star City Solos is a collection of piano solos for intermediates, each dedicated to a piano teacher in the Roanoke Valley. Participating teachers submitted parameters for their dedicated composition, such as: time signature, key signature, title, level, mood, etc. The resulting product is a treasury of music that reflects the personality and charm not only of individual teachers, but of the Roanoke Valley of Virginia in which they live! Available as both physical copy and digital download. Full Circle

Full Circle is the first published collection of piano solos by Sarah Reaser O'Brien. Each piece is named for a month of the year, and the styles vary from traditional pop and ragtime to new age!
